Borcher Madsen was born in 1815 in Væggerløse on the Danish Island, Falster. When he grew up, he married and moved to Nykøbing where he worked as “Musik Direktør”, Independed musician, for many years until his death in 1897.
We know around 100 compositions by Borcher Madsen, and inspired by Frede Nielsen from Højreby Spillemandslaug, the duo “Jensen & Bugge” – Mette Kathrine Jensen (accordion) and Kristian Bugge (violin) – picked out 16 tunes, which we have arranged for violin, accordion and guitar, and recorded at the Soundscape Studio, Louise Nipper’s place in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen.
We are talking about a number of pretty different dance tunes, pollas, waltzes, hopsas, menuets, reels and more, titled “Slid din tid” (Wear your time), “Efterårsvalsen” (The Autumn Waltz), “Vilhelmine Polka”, “Fanny Polka”, “Grevindens Menuet” (Countess Minuet), and so on.
The album will be released in the summer of 2015, on the 200 year anniversary for Borcher Madsen’s birth, together with a music collection of tunes from Borcher Madsen’s repertoire, and will be followed by a number of concerts around in Denmark.
As early as 27th of November 2015 Jensen & Bugge + Høirup will play a concert containing a number of Borche Madsen tunes at Riksscenen in Oslo, Norway, and on the 29th of November, the trio will meet up with Sonnich Lydom (accordion, harmonica), Malene Beck (piano) and Anders Ringaard (trombone), to perform a traditional dance with music from Thy, in the very northern part of Denmark. This will happen in the very center of Copenhagen, at Jazzhouse, where the Danish Music Award Folk Galla Party is being celebrated.
jensen & Bugge + Høirup’s cooperation was taking its beginning a few years back, and the trio has already performed a number of dances and concerts in Denmark and French-Canada. You can follow the trio on this page or at www.jensen-bugge.dk.
